Dear Planer,

This will be possible in the 2D planning of the next program versions PV*SOL premium 2016 and PV*SOL 2016. In these version you will be able to select different types of tracking system with different rotation axes.

The programs will be released end of November and in December 2015.

Best regards

Dear frederik,

it is now possible to design and simulate PV arrays with different kinds of tracking systems:

  • Fixed systems (with the option to optimize your inclination angle for a given azimut angle)
  • one-axis north-south (with backtracking, also the option to optimize the inclination angle)
    Forum Tracking 01.png
  • one-axis east-west
    Forum Tracking 02.png
  • one-axis with vertical rotation axis
    Forum Tracking 03.png
  • two-axis

If there are any wishes left, let us know :)

Kind regards,

Martin

Hello Rob,

the usage factor determines how close the tracking systems are placed to each other. A usage factor of 1 means, that the distance of one tracker to the next is as long as the module width. The distance is measured from the center of one tracked module to the center of the next. So, a usage factor of 0.5 would indicate that the distance between one module and the next is twice the module width.

This factor mainly influences the backtracking behaviour. If modules are very close, they have to be tracked back earlier than modules that have a longer distance between them.

Hope that helps. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Kind regards,

Martin

A diagram would help me understand

We have upgraded to Premium 7 and the tracking option has disappeared as an option.  is it still a there and hiding?

I have been looking at east-west tracking, so north south axis of rotation. with the modules flat (not tilted to the south).  several frame companies are claiming 20% yield improvement. with PVwatts i get the improvement but with PVsol and PVsyst I don't.

Thanks

Rob

Hey Rob,

here is a quick sketch to illustrate the usage factor:

usage factor tracking.png

So, the usage factor will be (width of PV) / (distance of trackers).

Hope that helps. Also, east-west tracking means that the axis of rotation goes from east to west. If you want to have your trackers rotated around the north-south axis, you would use the north-south tracking option.

And no, the tracking option should definitely be there. Did you upgrade to the lastet version (i.e. PV*SOL premium 2017 R5) ?

Kind regards,

Martin

Hello!

Is there already a simulation for the modules tracking the sun?

What the presentation looks like with this type of modules?

I want to depict a plot of land with panel following the sun and trace their effectivenes.

Thanks in advance!

Hello again! I'm trying a tracking system on the ground. How do I set the dimensions of an irregularly shaped property and the distance from its boundaries?

Is there a video tutorial for a project with trackers?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Go green BG

I am not quite sure if I understand your question correctly, but if you are trying to achieve a sun tracking system within PhotoPlan I must disappoint you. This is not possible.

Kind regards
Frederik

Не съм съвсем сигурен дали разбирам правилно въпроса ви, но ако се опитвате да постигнете система за проследяване на слънцето в PhotoPlan, трябва да ви разочаровам. Това е невъзможно.

I am trying to stake this type of tracker (from the picture). Is it possible for pv sol to arrange the panels on a property with set dimensions?

And again I ask: is there a video tutorial for a 2D project with trackers?

Yes. You do not have to paint a certain area since the calculations for 2D are not dependent on any positioning within a space. So I´d say your settings are correct.

I am afraid there is none, no.

Hello I have scheme design using N/S Single axis trackers and note there is now more data in the Bi-Facial modelling. I searched but cannot find the reference points used of the "Shading by Assembly system".

Default is at 10%, how is this calculated?

Hello HamishL

Sorry for the belated response, your request slipped through.

As far as I'm concerned it is not calculated. It is our default assumption of shading due to the mounting system.
Depending on the system you do use to incline your modules, feel free to adapt the fraction of irradiation which reaches the backside.

Kind regards
Frederik
