Does anyone know if PVSOL is able to model DC couple battery energy storage systems? In the UK DNOs regard AC coupled BESS inverters as generators and DC couple BESS can also make use of DC power shaved off at peak generation by undersized AC inverters

Dear Solarific,

yes, in PV*SOL you can also use DC coupled battery systems. There are three kinds of coupling:

  • AC coupling (coupling takes place on the AC side, after the PV inverter)
  • DC intermediate circuit coupling (coupling takes place inside the PV inverter, in the DC intermediate circuit, i.e. before the DC/AC stage)
  • DC generator coupling (coupling takes places on the DC string, before the PV inverter)

See more information and grafics here:

Hope that helps, kind regards,

Martin

Hi friend, How can i change coupling system type ?

Hi Black,

thanks for your question.

The coupling type can only be changed for self-created or copied entries:

You can create a new entry or copy an existing entry with the action buttons on the top of the table or by right click on the table:

Is there a way to get this to operate with a certain sized inverter? In the case of the UK say the DNO has given a constraint of 100kW export and so you want a 300kW PV system with a DC/DC battery of say 500kW that can only export a maximum of 100kW after the battery DC/AC.

Dear m.hall747,

Thank you for your inquiry.

The desired setting (maximum feed-in power of 100 kW at the inverter or at the feed-in point) can be configured under "Options" --> "Project Options" --> "AC Mains" (regardless of the inverter used).
