Goldman Posted July 18 Report Posted July 18 Hello, I encountered a problem while creating a 3D model using Google Solar API. When i turn on the terrain model it elevates my already existing 3D object and all in all shows differently than it's supposed to be. Maybe I'm missing something, but i don't know. It's supposed to look like this, but... I Instead it looks like this: It kind of generates the original building copied off the google maps under my 3D structure and if I choose the option of cutting out the terrain model it only does this around my structure (as it says so) and if i decrease the overall height of the building to 0 (using the "Proper height" button) - it looks good but i fear it may hinder the preciseness of shading simulation. How it looks with 0 height: Overall my question is - is there a more elegant and precise way to generate terrain model excluding the terrain under my building? I would be very glad for an answer! :) Thanks Quote
hotline_oh Posted July 22 Report Posted July 22 Dear Goldman, Thank you for your inquiry. From our point of view, your planning method is correct. We would describe the planning steps as follows: import/download Google Solar API orthophoto and elevation data for the site define elevation 0 (set pin) draw polygon for the building (make sure that the corner points of the polygon are actually on the roof of the building, not on a tree overhanging the roof, the ‘show elevation data’ button helps here) if necessary, make the polygon perpendicular extrude the building adjust the building dimensions (right-click on the building --> ‘edit’) if the polygon had to be drawn smaller due to overhanging trees make sure that under ‘options‘ --> ‘height data‘ the check mark for ‘cut out the terrain model around the polygons and extruded 3D objects‘ is set, with an additional space of approx. 1 m alternatively, if you need any additional distance, draw a polygon, but do not extrude it activate terrain model (lift mode) If the lift height is distorted by the overhanging trees, the height must be corrected subsequently (right-click on the building --> ‘correct height‘).
