Laura Posted January 8 Report Posted January 8 I was wondering if you could help me understand how PVSOL calculates the losses due to the shading. In this project we have an east-west layout. The panels in the red row are facing a 5m high wall (building in yellow), so my concern is that it will be completely shaded at the very moment that it should be performing at its best (facing west, shaded when the sun is in the west). If these panels are shaded by this wall and connected to the row in blue, the row in blue will also be affected as they are connected within the same string. Does PVSOL calculate the loss considering the whole string or does it consider the individual loss for each panel? If one panel is 36% shaded and the other one is only 12% shaded but connected to the same string, will the 12% shaded panel end up being affected almost as much as the 36% shaded panel? I would think it would be a big advantage to have all 4 rows facing east, but the difference is only 3% of performance ratio. This makes me think that maybe I don't understand how the yield reduction is calculated.
