Matt Posted February 8, 2017 Report Posted February 8, 2017 Hello, I have created a 3D building using the map method described in your tutorial. Works well, however, when placing module areas on the roof (google maps image) it seems there is an angular discrepancy between the roof orientation and the module field. Is the module field is always perpendicular to the roof area? how can I align the extruded building so that my module field will match the orientation? I also tried to adjust in terrain view but that did not have the desired result. Another question I had: Is it possible to use Google Streetview image as texture on the side view of an extruded building? How would I go about it? Thank you for any advice in the matter Quote
developer_mh Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 Dear Matt, thanks a lot for your question! When you place module areas on roof tops, they will be aligned parallel to the reference edge of the roof. In this example I selected edge 8 to be my reference edge: Then the modules will be placed in parallel to this edge: Note: if you work with reference edges, be sure to define your reference edge first before constructing other objects on the roof (or area). However, when you place module mountings on roof tops, you can enter the orientation of the mounting structures in relation to the selected reference edge in the module mounting dialog: Hope that helps, kind regards, Martin Quote
Buscum_Ducis Posted March 30, 2020 Report Posted March 30, 2020 Hi there, I am wondering how you can define your reference edges? As you stated: Quote Note: if you work with reference edges, be sure to define your reference edge first before constructing other objects on the roof (or area). I work a lot with 3D .dae models from sketchup. When I model a building in PVSOL, I have the option to define the reference edge. When I use the 3D model I don't see this option, and I am forced to wiggle about with the degrees of the orientation of the modules. Am I missing something here or can you please direct me into the right direction? Should I open a new topic for this, for possible future inquiries about this matter? Thank you in advance! Quote
